Secretariat: UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea
UNEP National Committee is multi-stakeholder support organizations
set up under practices and norms existing in different countries
on the operation of NGOs. National Committee is channel for communication
with the public in their country but not official UNEP representatives.
There are great variations in their core activities from one country
to another. It is established in order to increase public awareness
of the mandate and functions of UNEP; promote public support for
its work; mobilize public support for the provision of adequate
resources for the solution of environmental problems; and provide
an additional forum for participating members to share information
and experiences in the context of UNEP’s programme and the
work of the United Nations.

UNEP National Committee’s Youth Commitments
Current Activities
1) Environmental Education Programme for Children
Environmental education programme for children twice a year. Since
2000, over 9000 children have been participated in this programme.
Programmes are vary under the circumstances of local environment.
2) Tunza Korean International Children’s Conference
Committee
Tunza Korean International Children’s Conference Committee
has been organized since 2004. The objective is preparation for
Korean children to get accustomed to global environmental issues
and participated in UNEP’s children programmes including
‘Tunza International Children’s Conference.’
3) UNEP ANGEL: University Students Voluntary Group
Under the general constituent members of UNEP National Committee
for the Republic of Korea, Korean youth groups, especially university
students named ‘UNEP ANGEL’, are actively engaged
in environmental campaigns and green campus initiatives in Korea.
4) Tunza Magazine in Korean
A timely and regular supply of publication on UNEP’s youth
magazine, ‘Tunza’, has been translated in Korean and
disseminated through members and other educational groups.
5) Children’s Painting and Essay Competition
In line with UNEP’s children events such as ‘International
Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment’,
UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea has held painting
competitions and essay competition for children as well.
6) Environmental Campaigns
To promote awareness and global actions by young people, UNEP
National Committee for the Republic of Korea has organized environmental
campaigns on topical issues such as ozone depletion, energy efficiency
or seas and oceans pollution.
7) Internship Programme
UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea has facilitated
internship programme for young people to gain experience, such
as assisting environmental education programmes or translating
English materials into Korean.
