National Focal Points Plan of Action

1. Background

One of the main objectives of NEAYEN is to encourage youth participation for advocacy on the environment in the Northeast Asia. Although UNEP has committed to create a global movement in which youth worldwide will actively participate in environmental activities, there has been lack of adequate structure for youth in the Northeast Asia to reflect the view of their own environmental challenges. To boost youth mobilization in the region, therefore, NEAYEN seeks to work with grass-root organizations to reach out young people on the implementation of environmental programmes. NEAYEN will also strengthen its work with selected partners in school and universities. Although the Northeast Asia has many vibrations on economic, social, and cultural differences, its access to environmental information is still limited. For better influence, it must be opened up further to the participation of youth environment groups at grass-root level. The national focal points of NEAYEN will work closely with such partners.

2. Plan of Action

To interact and intersect with NEAYEN programmes, each national focal point is requested to achieve as follows:

1) Make an umbrella network which consists of various members under the instructions of NEAYEN membership criteria
2) Promote youth to get involved in NEAYEN programmes such as on-line discussion, campaigns, publication and conferences
3) Select youth representatives for eco-youth forum and Tunza International Youth Conference
